Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where is Evolve Surfing based?

We’re based in Ericeira, Portugal, a world-class surf town just 45 minutes from Lisbon. It’s known for consistent waves, a relaxed vibe, and being Europe’s first World Surfing Reserve.

In summer, expect warm sunny days, cooler evenings, and smaller, fun waves—great for beginners and intermediates. In winter, it’s milder than most of Europe with more powerful swells and consistent surf, ideal for intermediate and advanced surfers. You’ll be surfing year-round with a good wetsuit.

Anyone looking to improve their surfing. We coach beginners building the basics, intermediates refining their skills, and more experienced surfers working on strategy, technique, and wave reading.

  • Surf Lessons are designed for beginners. We cover the fundamentals—how to paddle, pop up, read waves, and stay safe in the ocean.

  • Surf Coaching is for intermediate and advanced surfers. These sessions are more technical, with personalized drills, wave strategy, and video analysis.

Yes. Most surfers who book coaching already have their own gear. If you don’t, we can help you rent or buy the right equipment for your level and goals.

No. All equipment is included in our surf lessons—board, leash, wetsuit, and everything else you’ll need to get started.

It depends on the format:

  • Beach Coaching: We film your session from the beach, then sit down for a full review with feedback and analysis.

  • In-Water Coaching: Your coach paddles out with you, offering live feedback while surfing together. These are also filmed and reviewed after.

Both options include video analysis to help track progress and refine your surfing.

Yes. All our coaching sessions are one-on-one. The Evolve Programs are for small groups for up to 3 surfers of the same level who want to train together.

Evolve Surf Programs are structured coaching plans with multiple sessions. Instead of booking one-offs, you follow a progression path that matches your level. Each program includes a mix of beach filming, video analysis, theory, and in-water coaching. It’s the most effective way to stay consistent, get proper feedback, and make real progress in your surfing.
