Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Where is Evolve Surfing based?
We’re based in Ericeira, Portugal, a world-class surf town just 45 minutes from Lisbon. It’s known for consistent waves, a relaxed vibe, and being Europe’s first World Surfing Reserve.
How do I get to Ericeira from Lisbon?
It’s an easy trip. You can drive (around 45 minutes), take a bus from Campo Grande station, or book a transfer. We’re happy to help you figure out the best option depending on your arrival time and setup.
What’s the weather like in Ericeira?
In summer, expect warm sunny days, cooler evenings, and smaller, fun waves—great for beginners and intermediates. In winter, it’s milder than most of Europe with more powerful swells and consistent surf, ideal for intermediate and advanced surfers. You’ll be surfing year-round with a good wetsuit.
How are the surf conditions in Ericeira?
Ericeira has waves for all levels: from mellow beach breaks to heavy reef setups. It’s one of the most consistent surf zones in Europe, with a variety of spots nearby, including Foz do Lizandro, Matadouro, Ribeira d’Ilhas, and Coxos.
Who can join Evolve Surfing?
Anyone looking to improve their surfing. We coach beginners building the basics, intermediates refining their skills, and more experienced surfers working on strategy, technique, and wave reading.
What’s the difference between surf lessons and surf coaching?
Surf Lessons are designed for beginners. We cover the fundamentals—how to paddle, pop up, read waves, and stay safe in the ocean.
Surf Coaching is for intermediate and advanced surfers. These sessions are more technical, with personalized drills, wave strategy, and video analysis.
Do I need to bring my own equipment for surf coaching?
Yes. Most surfers who book coaching already have their own gear. If you don’t, we can help you rent or buy the right equipment for your level and goals.
Do I need to bring equipment for surf lessons?
No. All equipment is included in our surf lessons—board, leash, wetsuit, and everything else you’ll need to get started.
What’s included in a surf coaching session?
It depends on the format:
Beach Coaching: We film your session from the beach, then sit down for a full review with feedback and analysis.
In-Water Coaching: Your coach paddles out with you, offering live feedback while surfing together. These are also filmed and reviewed after.
Both options include video analysis to help track progress and refine your surfing.
Do you offer private surf coaching?
Yes. All our coaching sessions are one-on-one. The Evolve Programs are for small groups for up to 3 surfers of the same level who want to train together.
What are the Evolve Surf Programs?
Evolve Surf Programs are structured coaching plans with multiple sessions. Instead of booking one-offs, you follow a progression path that matches your level. Each program includes a mix of beach filming, video analysis, theory, and in-water coaching. It’s the most effective way to stay consistent, get proper feedback, and make real progress in your surfing.
How do I book a surf lesson or coaching session?
Reach out through our website or Instagram. We’ll go over your level, goals, and availability, then set up the best option for your needs.
